For the past 25 years, the Alaska State Writing Consortium
has worked to provide our member districts and teachers with
the best possible professional development opportunities such
as the following:
The Summer Invitational Institute where the most outstanding
teachers in the state convene for an intense workshop and
credit course focused upon helping teachers broaden and deepen
their knowledge and skills through the study of writing theory
and practice.
Open Special Topics institutes for university credit designed
to focus on one particular aspect of the writing process,
writing using technology, writing assessment, or writing
across the curriculum.
Stipends and travel scholarships to attend both the summer
invitational and open special topics institutes.
In-services tailored to the needs of our member districts,
presented by highly qualified National Writing Project-trained
Alaskan educators.
Networking and cross-state communication via online courses,
discussion software, and conferences.
Publishing online via the ASWC electronic magazine Northern
Lit where students and teachers can submit fiction,
non-fiction, and digital media to take their writing all
the way to the final stage of the writing process: publication.
